MOSCOW, May 10 (Itar-Tass) — A group of 16 tourists has disappeared in the mountains of Karachai-Cherkessia, the press service of the North Caucasus regional center of the Emergency Situations Ministry /EMERCOM/ told Itar-Tass on Thursday.
The group from Astrakhan, which registered at the Arkhyz rescue unit of the Karachai-Cherkessia search and rescue department, failed to make radio contact at the designated time. "Sixteen persons started from the village of Arkhyz en route through the Pkhiyan and Temir Kula Passes. They are supposed to return to the Glade of Get-togethers in Arkhyz. The length of the route is 117 kilometers," an EMERCOM official said.
A group of rescuers is walking the route of the missing group.
An Mi-8 helicopter with several rescuers and a doctor is flying along the route.
