Five policemen injured in Dagestan

MAKHACHKALA, May 10 (Itar-Tass) — Five policemen, who were on the way back from the site of a road accident, were injured in the shootout in the Babayurt district in Dagestan. “The incident occurred at about 23:00 Moscow time on Wednesday near Muzhukai,” a source in the district police station told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

The policemen, who were driving an UAZ car, came under fire by unidentified gunmen in a Lada Priora car that blocked the way for the police patrol car, the source said. Five policemen were wounded, one of them was heavily injured in the head.

The wounded policeman underwent a surgery overnight to Thursday. He is estimated to be in stably grave condition. Other policemen are in satisfactory condition.
