MOSCOW, May 9 (Itar-Tass) — Fireworks illuminated Moscow skies in all colors of rainbow on Wednesday evening as guns fired 30 salvos on the occasion of the 67th anniversary of victory over fascism.
Seventy launchers equipped with an up-to-date electronic system, including a new 2A85 self-propelled launcher, were installed at 14 locations in Moscow: the Poklonnaya Hill, near the Kursk railway station, in the Moscow districts of Nagatino, Tushino, South Butovo, Solntsevo, Mitino and Zelenograd, the Bolshaya Akademicheskaya street and the Obruchev district. The command point was on Sparrow Hills. Apart from salute launchers, eighteen artillery guns fired salvos with blank ammunition for proper sound accompaniment. Those guns were manufactured in 1942-1945.
The fireworks were best seen on Sparrow Hills and on Poklonnaya Hill.
People saw 4,500 fireworks different in shape and color. They were ball-shaped and had their own names to symbolize the inimitable palette of colors and graphics. All the shells were made in Russia.
The fireworks were organized by the 449th separate salute division of the Western military district.
V-Day fireworks were held in other hero cities such as St. Petersburg, Volgograd, Novorossiysk, Tula, Smolensk and Murmansk; cities of dislocation of the headquarters of military districts, the army and navy, the Caspian flotilla and Sebastopol.
