MOSCOW, May 9 (Itar-Tass) —— About 2,000 servicemen took part in a military parade on Wednesday on the occasion of the 67th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1954 in Russia’s Far Eastern city of Vladivostok.

Units dressed in the war-time military uniform, as well as units of servicemen from warships, coastal and land troops, students from the Makarov and Nevelsky Naval Schools, and interior and emergencies troops marched down the city’s central street. More than 30 units of military hardware, such as OSA and S-300 missile systems, Redut and Rubezh self-propelled systems, and others took part in the parade.

This year the venue for the parade has been changed. Until 2012, military parades were held either near the Pacific Fleet Combat Glory Memorial in Korabelnaya Embankment or on Vladivostok’s central square. This year, the parade marched along Svetlanskaya Street, which hosted Victory parades in 1950-1960s.

After the parade, celebrations were continued in the city’s parks and boulevards. The celebrations will culminate with colorful fireworks in the evening.

A Victory Day military parade was held in Khabarovsk. About 1,500 servicemen took part in the parade on the city’s central Lenin Square. WWII veteran watched the parade from the tribune. The military parade was followed by a show of military bands, and a march of veterans and general public.

Officials from the territorial administration and federal authorities, commanders of the Eastern military district and war veterans laid wreaths to the Eternal Flame of the Memorial Complex featuring more than 47,000 manes of residents of the Khabarobsk Territory who died in the Second World War.

Celebrations were continued on the city’s squares, in parks and boulevards. An exhibition of military hardware and armaments, as well as pre-war and wartime automobiles was organized in the Amur embankment. The celebrations will culminate with festive wireworks in the evening.

In Pteropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the flag-hoisting ceremony was held at military units and warships deployed in Kamchatka.

A rally in the memory of Kamchatka residents who fought at the WWII fronts was held in the Victory Park in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. A military parade was held in the centre of the city. After a minute of silence, about 800 servicemen marched on the central square of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

The central part of the city was closed for traffic and various festival events and concerns were organized for people. In the evening, an artillery salvo will be fired to be followed by fireworks.

As many as 23,929 Kamchatka dwellers took part in the Great Patriotic War, more of than 2,000 of them never came home from the war. The war ended only in September 1945 for many, who took part in the Kuril operation that smashed Japanese troops on the Kuril Islands. Now, according to the regional government, as many as 1,607 WWII veterans are living in the Kamchatka territory.
