VLADIVOSTOK, May 9 (Itar-Tass) —— Two senior high school student who were reported missing on Tuesday while ascending the Chekhova Mount on Russia’s Far Eastern island of Sakhalin have shown up safe and sound in a neighboring settlement, a spokesman for the Sakhalim emergencies administration said on Wednesday.
When the teenage boy and the girl reached the settlement of Lesnoye, locals called their parents who took them back home to Yuzho-Sakhalinsk.
According to the spokesman, the teenagers are in satisfactory health condition and need no medical help.
About 1,000 young people took part in the ascend of the Chekhova Mount that was organized to mark the 67th anniversary in WWII. A group of nine teenagers did not wait for the rest and began to descend the mount by themselves. They did not appear at the check point.
The search operation involved 69 rescuers from the emergencies administration and volunteers. Seven youngsters were found in about 90 minutes. Two were reported missing since Tuesday.
