KIEV, May 8 (Itar-Tass) —— Ukraine will host the Euro 2012 finals on the top level. “That would be a festival of soccer and sport to be viewed by people from more than 100 countries,” Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Dikusarov said on Tuesday.
Referring to the boycott of Ukrainian matches of Euro 2012 by certain European politicians, he said, “The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry views this position as destructive. Sport events must not be linked with politics.”
He also said that the Ukrainian authorities did not send official invitations to leaders or high-ranking officials of foreign states to the Euro 2012 matches.
A number of Western politicians, among them European commissioners, said earlier they would boycott Ukrainian matches of Euro 2012 due to the ex-Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko situation.
