State Duma endorses Medvedev as Russian Prime Minister

The candidate needed support of the majority. In all, the State Duma has 450 deputies

MOSCOW, May 8 (Itar-Tass) —— The State Duma has endorsed the appointment of Dmitry Medvedev as the Russian Prime Minister with 299 votes to 144. No one abstained.

United Russia and the Liberal Democratic Party, which hold 294 parliament seats (238 and 56 seats correspondingly), said earlier they would vote for Medvedev. The Communist Party and A Just Russia with the total of 156 seats (92 and 64) said they would vote against the candidate.

The candidate needed support of the majority. In all, the State Duma has 450 deputies.
