MOSCOW, May 8 (Itar-Tass) —— The group of oppositionists is staying at the Kitai-Gorod metro station overnight to Tuesday.

Several tens of people are staying at the Monument to the Heroes of Pleven. Some of them are sitting on the ground. They are not chanting any slogans, not carrying any posters and are just talking with each other. They have written anti-Putin’s slogans on the asphalt.

The oppositionists appealed to all people in the social networks to come to the Kitai-Gorod metro station.

An opposition blogger Alexei Navalny also came to the Monument to the Heroes of Pleven to support the protest. He was detained on Sunday “for disobedience to the demands of police” during a rally on the Bolotnaya Square that grew into tough clashes between the opposition and police. The court fined him on Monday.

Navalny is talking to the protesters, who said that “they will be sitting until they want to.”

The situation is calm in general. The policemen come up to the protesters from time to time, but do not detain anybody. No reinforced police patrols were placed at the Kitai-Gorod metro station.

The main Interior Ministry’s department in Moscow reported earlier that the police had to detain the oppositionists 300 times on Monday.

“As the Moscow police are acting absolutely leniently, not wishing to spoil the mood of the May holidays, all detainees brought to the police stations for the attempts of unauthorized pickets in downtown Moscow are released after preventive warnings,” the press service of the main Interior Ministry’s department told Itar-Tass.

The police press service said with regret that many protesters are detained again. “Unfortunately many of them return after the release and are seeking again to commit illegal acts, therefore, several citizens were taken to the police stations already several times,” the press service reported.
