Voter turnout in Armenia parliamentary polls Sun was 62.26 %

YEREVAN, May 7 (Itar-Tass) — Voter turnout at the parliamentary elections in Armenia on Sunday was 62.26 percent, according to prelimnary data read out by Tigran Mukuchyan, Chairman of the Central Eelectoral Commission (CEC).

Upon pointing out that those were only preliminarty data obtained from district electoral commissions immediately at the close of polloing, Mukuchyan said that in Yerevan voter turnout was 59.53 percent. Among Armenia's regions, most active were the residents of Syunik (the country's south-east) -- 72.09 percent, and the least one was in Armavir Region (west of Yerevan, at the border with Turkey) -- 56.11 percent.

The Republican Party of Armenia and the Prosperous Armenia party enter parliament on the strength of the polling results. According to exit poll taken by the American public opinion institute Gallup, 44.44 percent of voters favoured the Republicans, and 28.81 percent the Prosperious Armenia.
