March of Millions participants mistook smoke charges tossed by opposition activists for teargas

MOSCOW, May 6 (Itar-Tass) —— March of Millions participants mistook smoke charges tossed by opposition activists for teargas.

The police did not use teargas, while march participants lit flares and tossed smoke charges, which OMON officers put out.

The situation on Bolotnaya Square has stabilized by now. OMON is dividing the crowd. Several dozens of people, among them Left Front leader Sergei Udaltsov and blogger Alexei Navalny, who went on a sit-in strike near the Udarnik Movie Theater, were detained.

Some of the opposition members are going back to Bolotnaya Square for a rally, but the police keep telling them that the rally’s time is up and they should leave. Activists are tossing sticks at the policemen in response.
