MOSCOW, May 5 (Itar-Tass) — First elections of governors under the new legislation will be held already on the next day of voting -- October 14, Russian Central Election Commission head Vladimir Churov said during a briefing on Saturday.

Gubernatorial elections will be held at least in two, and perhaps in more, regions, he said. According to Churov, it will be known later when the elections are called.

On May 2, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed the Law on Elections of Governors. It comes into force on June 1, 2012. First elections on the basis of the provisions will be held on the second Sunday of October in 2012 and will take place in regions where the terms of heads expire from the date when the law takes effect and during the period till the end of the year, including December 31, 2012.

Beginning 2013, elections will be held on the vote day of the year when a regional head's term expires.
