STAVROPOL, May 5 (Itar-Tass) —— The legislature of the Stavropol Territory voted unanimously for Valery Zerenkov as governor.
He earlier occupied the post of the acting governor of the territory.
All 45 deputies, who attended an extraordinary meeting of the legislature, voted for Zerenkov.
“The decision was taken unanimously,” speaker of the territorial parliament Yuri Bely said.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev nominated acting governor Valery Zerenkov as a candidate for governorship put up for voting in the Duma of the Stavropol Territory on May 4. The president has made a choice from three candidates, which United Russia offered to him for consideration.
On May 2, Medvedev accepted the resignation of Governor of the Stavropol Territory Valery Gayevsky on his own volition over the early termination of his powers. At the same time the president appointed Valery Zerenkov as acting governor in the territory.
Valery Zerenkov was born on August 13, 1948 in the town Izobilny in the Stavropol Territory. In 1994-1998 he headed the Duma in the Stavropol Territory. He was a member of the Federation Council, a member of the Federation Council Committee for budget, tax policy, financial, currency and customs regulation and banking. On December 4, 2011, he was elected in the sixth State Duma on the United Russia federal party list.
