VLADIVOSTOK, May 5 (Itar-Tass) — The Verkhneye Lake, which is situated in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, overflew on Saturday, and the Krasnoselskaya River burst its banks in the residential district Novoalexandrovsk. Some 25 courtyards were flooded, the residential premises were flooded in twenty five houses, the press service of the main emergency situation department in the Sakhalin Region told Itar-Tass on Saturday.
The lake and the river overflew due to heavy rains and snow melting in the mountains. The water from the lake is flooding the streets in the eastern district of the city, and the river overflew the district Novoalexadrovsk. The Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk authorities prepared the accommodation for the residents of flooded houses, but the latter preferred to call at their relatives. The specialists forecast that the water level will begin to go down in the Krasnoselskaya River by Saturday evening.
