144 injured at Armenia election rally

As a result of the fire of the inflammable gas dozens of young people got their faces and hands burnt

YEREVAN, May 5 (Itar-Tass) —— 144 people were injured at an election concert-rally of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia when helium-filled air balls began to explode late on Friday.

The emergency service said smoking close to the balls was likely the reason of the incident which took place right before President Serzh Sargsyan was due to arrive in downtown Republic Square in Yerevan.

As a result of the fire of the inflammable gas dozens of young people got their faces and hands burnt. The youngest of the injured is four years old. They are all in a satisfactory condition.

Armenia is to hold a parliamentary election on Sunday.
