Forest fires come back to Krasnoyarsk territory

Now, 219 specialists and 29 machinery units are involved in the fire-fighting operations

KRASNOYARSK, May 4 (Itar-Tass) —— Forest fires in the Krasnoyarsk territory are raging again, Duty Officer of the Territorial Forest Fire Centre Anatoly Lomakin told Itar-Tass on Friday.

In his words, 13 woodland fires were registered in an area of 245.5 hectares as of 13.45 Moscow time on Friday. There is no fire threat to populated areas.

Forest fires were registered in the Pirovsky, Ilansky, Kansky, Nizhneingashsky, Uzhursky, Sharypovsky, Mansky and Yermakovsky districts.

According to Lomakin, the biggest part of new fires (209 hectares) is located in the zone inaccessible to people and machinery, but only to aircraft, which complicates the fire extinguishing. Helicopters deliver fire-fighters and special machinery units to the fire sites, he said.

Now, 219 specialists and 29 machinery units are involved in the fire-fighting operations. “The situation with woodland fires is under control,” an official at the Territorial Natural Resources and Forestry Ministry said.

In all, 168 wildfires in a total area of 1,158 hectares have been registered in the Krasnoyarsk territory since the beginning of this year’s fire season.
