Ten taiga fires registered in Buryatia

ULAN-UDE, May 4 (Itar-Tass) — Ten fires engulfing over 80 hectares of taiga are fixed in Buryatia, a source from the republican forestry agency told Tass on Friday. This is twice as much as on Thursday.

Fires break out as a result of agricultural burning or are caused by people. The most difficult situation is in the Zakamensk region, where six fires are registered. Fifty paratroopers and 100 firemen have been sent there. They are assisted by local residents. All in all about 300 people are involved in firefighting efforts in the republic.

Meanwhile, the fire situation may aggravate in the region within the next few days, as temperatures will rise to 25 degrees Celsius and no rain is forecasted. It is not ruled out that despite a ban local residents will flock to forests for basketpicnics during the weekend.
