Deputy interior min to present Tatarstan’s new interior minister

The president relieved Safarov of his duties on April 9

KAZAN, May 4 (Itar-Tass) — Russia’s Deputy Interior Minister Sergei Gerasimov will on Friday present the new interior minister of Tatarstan, Artyom Khokhorin. President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov will take part in the ceremony.

On April 27, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree appointing Maj. Gen. of Police Artyom Khokhorin as interior minister of Tatarstan. Khokhorin earlier headed the organizational analytical department at the Russian Interior Ministry.

He has replaced Asgat Safarov at Tatarstan’s interior minister. The president relieved Safarov of his duties on April 9. Several days before that Safarov filed resignation over the use of violence against a detainee by police from the Kazan police station Dalny. Sergei Nazarov died in hospital after tortures.
