MOSCOW, May 3 (Itar-Tass) — President Dmitry Medvedev said Russia does not intend to give up nuclear weapons. Speaking at a state award-giving ceremony on Thursday, the president expressed confidence that Russia will have many successes in the future, including in the field of nuclear weapons "which we're not giving up." "They will come in handy to us yet," he stated.

"We're not going to use them, but let us keep them," the president said, "because we have a large country, a complex country; one has to appreciate it; it has to be protected."
