PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, May 3 (Itar-Tass) —— The government of Russia’s Far Eastern Kamchatka Territory has called on commercial organizations, businessmen and residents to offer help to dwellers of the settlement of Tygda in the Amur region that was destroyed by a wildfire on April 20.

“Kamchatka government officials have already transferred their day’s pay as assistance to Tygda residents. The money will go to families that lost their homes in the fire. Other Far Eastern regions are also offering assistance. Nonetheless, much more funds are needed to restore the housing in the settlement. Kamchatka has never been deaf to the misfortunes of its neighbours,” Kamchatka Territory minister of special programs and the affairs of Cossacks Sergei Khabarov said in an address to the territory’s population.

The April 20 fire in Tygda destroyed 83 residential houses, leaving as many as 346 people, including 59 children, homeless. Two persons were killed in the fire.
