KRASNOYARSK, May 2 (Itar-Tass) — Twenty three forest fires have swept 1,979 hectares in Siberia. Ten of the outbreaks on 1,782 hectares are localized, the press service of the Emergencies Ministry’s Siberian regional centre reported to Itar-Tass.
Forests are afire in three districts, according to the reports as of Wednesday morning. Eighteen fires have swept 1,782 hectares in the Trans-Baikal Territory, including two large conflagrations on 1,123 hectares. There are two fires on 192 hectares in Tuva, and five hectares of forests are ablaze in Buryatia.
Meteorologists forecast that the weather may raise the fire hazard level to the highest fifth class in the Altai Territory’s forests. They forecast the fourth class in the Trans-Baikal Territory and the Novosibirsk Region.
Fires may spread to residential sites, electro-transmission lines and other facilities, the emergency centre warns.
