MOSCOW, May 2 (Itar-Tass) — President Dmitry Medvedev, who will quit the post in five days' time, is to hold a concluding meeting with members of parliamentary parties here on Wednesday.
Over the four years as President, Medvedev regularly, several times a year, received represntatives of parliamentary parties for conversations. In recent months, it is true, the traditions changed: the Head of State began to meet also with non-parliamentary parties and with those that had not yet gone through registration. The President suggested the idea of a political reform, as a result of which the number of political parties in Russia is to grow substantially.
Medvedev himself will also become a party member shortly. Last week, he accepted a proposal to join the United Russia party and assume the leadership of it.
Parliamentary parties expect that today's meeting will deal with summing up the results of the joint work and mapping out plans for the future.
Ivan Melnikov, First Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), also supposed that a procedure for Dmitry Medvedev's meetings with the parliamentary party factions would be discussed during Wednesday's conversation. "Those meetings will be started upon Vladimir Putin's inauguration and receipt by the State Duma of a respective recommendation for the position of Chairman of Government," the spokesman for the CPRF leadership pointed out, specifying that meetings "will be held in the afternoon of May 7 and until 15:00 on May 8".
State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin announced that an agenda item concerning appointment of a Prime Minister would be discussed by the House on May 8.
Under the provisions of the Constitution of the RF, the State Duma gives its consent to the President of the RF to an appointment of Chairman of Governmet of the RF.
Earlier, President-elect Vladimir Putin repeatedly stated tht he would suggest the candidacy of incumbent Head of State Dmitry Medvedev for the position of Premier.
