KIEV, May 1 (Itar-Tass) —— Alexander Timoshenko, ex-Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko’s husband, has asked her to end the hunger strike.
The letter of Alexander Timoshenko, who currently lives in Prague, asked her to think about the future of Ukraine, whose leader she would be. The letter was posted on the ex-premier’s website.
Timoshenko’s daughter Yevgenia said on Monday that her mother’s health had deteriorated due to the hunger strike. She visited Timoshenko at the Kharkov penitentiary. “My mother is very weak; her physical condition has deteriorated,” she said.
Timoshenko went on a hunger strike on April 20 after personnel of the Kharkov penitentiary allegedly used force against her during the transfer to the hospital.
Timoshenko is serving a seven-year-term in Kharkov. The court sentenced her on October 11, 2011, for exceeding her authority in the signing of the gas contracts with Russia in 2009. She was also compelled to pay 1.51 billion hryvni (almost $200 million) to Neftegaz Ukrainy.
