KURSK, May 1 (Itar-Tass) —— Kursk celebrated May 1 with a 60,000-strong march led by the regional and city leaders, war and labor veterans and Kursk honorary citizens.
“We say again that working people must have worthy salaries and enjoy public respect,” city trade union leader Igor Mikryukov told the rally on the city’s main square.
No matter how the May 1 holiday may be called, it remains a cheerful spring holiday, Kursk Governor Alexander Mikhailov said. This is the holiday, which unites all generations and reflects the Russian history, he said. “The Kursk region has successfully recovered from economic problems and has taken a commendable position in the Central Federal District,” he said.
The regional socioeconomic development program includes 116 investment projects and 110 socially significant projects; it is planned to create 15,000 to 18,000 jobs, the governor said.
