MOSCOW, May 1 (Itar-Tass) — Admission to Moscow museums will be free on May Day, people can also watch movies outdoors and take part in various sporting events. Despite the fact that the dacha season is unofficially opening in the city on Tuesday - thousands of citizens have left the city for their dacha gardens - the city authorities have prepared an extensive holiday program for the Muscovites. Twelve city parks are also opening the summer park season. In total, more than 12 thousand events have been prepared for the May holidays.
The city Culture Department reported that Gorky Park offers the most extensive festive program – it is opening several sites at a time. The Pioner 24-hour open-air film theatre with seats for 370 people, 50 of them will be able to watch movies in a lying position, is also opening. The “Match” drama will be the premiere of the “lying” hall. A summer cafe and free Wi-Fi will be working nearby.
Starting from 18:00 MSK, actors of Moscow theatres on the Musical Stage on May Day will be reading poetry of different years within the program “Not only Mayakovsky.” And after that young poets at 19:00 will stage a “battle” to show what the people of the modern generation feel on this day.
In Neskuchny Garden a rope course will be opened with different difficulty levels for children and adults. A site with exercise equipment and cycle paths with a bicycle rental service will also be working there.
In Fountain Square starting from 12:00 master classes in longboard will be held, a lottery will also be organized; Lymarev & Erikona, the Sakura group will play their music. At 16:45 and 17:45 there will be the “Dancing City” flash mob. At 14:00 there will be break dance performance on the Buran embankment. Orchestras will be playing all day at different sites of the park.
At noon, holiday festivities will start in Bauman Garden and Krasnaya Presnya recreation park. In Tagansky Park the holiday events will start from 11:00, and from 15:00 the Muzeon Park of arts is opening May Day festivities by launching an open forum - a public performance venue for all comers. Poets will also recite their poetry there.
In Bauman Garden the visitors will be entertained by athletes’ performances in the spirit of the Soviet times, when the leaders stood on the review stand, and happy young people in t-shirts and tights were twisting hula-hoops in the square in front of them with ribbons and flowers. In Babushkinsky Park girls will be able to participate in a win-win contest for the most beautiful baby carriage.
In Sokolniki Park Spring and Labour Day will be celebrated with concerts. From 15:00 to 21:00 MSK there will be a great theatrical entertainment program in Festival Square. On the Rotunda Stage a dance program will be organised and a brass band will be plating on stage, and on the Central Stage the concert Sokolniki in Spring will be given.
At the All-Russia Exhibition Centre (VVTs) the festivities will begin at 14:00 MSK. Arts collectives will entertain Muscovites and the city guests at the Friendship of Peoples fountain.
The Luzhniki Sports Complex will for the first time in its 55-year history hold an open day - all its sports facilities will be working for free. People will be able to participate in family relay races, try mini-football, streetball, golf, tennis, swimming pool events, to visit the workshops of famous athletes. The festive atmosphere will be supported by a grand six-hour concert in the open air of more than 40 representatives of different musical genres - rap, reggae, rock, pop and dance music. The 6th Saint George Games of athletes of the Orthodox youth organisations of the Moscow diocese will also be held. The program includes competitions in mini-football, streetball and volleyball, as well as the Saint George relay race.
In the Moscow Metro the passengers are congratulated on May Day with songs and poems, as well as can learn interesting facts from the history of the capital’s underground rail service, which is also the fastest. According to the press service of the Moscow Metro, during Spring and Labour Day the radio broadcast program of the Metro will feature, among others, poems by Vasily Zhukovsky, Sergei Yesenin, Agnia Barto. The passengers will also be entertained with the popular spring songs.
