LONDON, April 29 (Itar-Tass) —— Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal and Russian businessmen Alisher Usmanov and Roman Abramovich are the top three of the Sunday Times Rich List of the wealthiest people in the United Kingdom.
Mittal with the wealth estimated at 12.7 pounds (about $20.6 billion) sustained the biggest losses over the past year (27%) due to a drop in the steel business’ share price.
The weekly said metal tycoon, Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov ranked second with 12.3 billion pounds (over $20 billion), while Chelsea owner and oil baron Roman Abramovich was third with 9.5 billion pounds ($15.4 billion), despite being 800 million pounds ($1.3 billion) down on last year.
The combined worth of the UK's 1,000 wealthiest people is 414 billion pounds (almost $673.5 billion), up 4.7 percent in the past 12 months. The number of billionaires has risen from 73 to 77. The list is compiled by Sunday Times annually on the basis of open-access information and own sources.
