IRKUTSK, April 29 (Itar-Tass) —— Water supply has resumed in the Cheremkhovo district of the Irkutsk region.

“Water supply resumed to municipalities within the emergency situation zone from the Svirsk water intake at 9:00 p.m. local time (4:00 p.m. Moscow time). Tap water will become available in homes in the Cheremkhovo district and the town of Svirsk in four or five hours, and people in Cheremkhovo will have tap water again by 8:00 a.m.,” Irkutsk Governor Dmitry Mezentsev said.

In his words, the water will be checked for possible pollution every hour.

The governor also said that the delivery of bottled and tank truck water to the area would continue so far. The authorities stressed that tap water could be used for technical purposes only until further notice.

More than 44 tonnes of petroleum products spilled into Angara on April 25 through an illegal connection to the local pipeline. The oil spill is still being collected with activated charcoal brought from China. Tap water supply was cut to more than 77,500 people.
