MOSCOW, April 28 (Itar-Tass) —— There are no Russian citizens among the casualties of the latest terrorist acts in Syria, the Foreign Ministry said on Saturday, April 28.
A suicide bomber in a car stuffed with explosives blew it up neat a mosque and a school in central Damascus on Friday, April 27, at a time when believers were leaving the mosque after the prayer. According to preliminary information, 10 civilians and security personnel were killed and more than 20 wounded.
Casualties were also reported in other terrorist acts in other parts of Damascus and other cities on the same day. There were no Russians among the casualties, the Russian Embassy in Syria said.
Moscow has strongly condemned the terrorist act as “barbaric actions” and expressed sincere sympathy to the families of those killed and wounded, wishing the speediest recovery to the latter.
“The masterminds and perpetrators of these crimes must be found and punished to the full extent of the law,” the ministry said.
The latest series of terrorist acts in Syria are designed to derail the peaceful settlement in the country, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
“Particularly alarming are attempts by the Syrian intransigent opposition is to escalate the situation in the country and foment violence even at the cost of innocent lives,” the ministry said. “The provocative purpose of this is obvious – to derail the peaceful settlement in Syria on the basis of Joint Special Envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab States, Kofi Annan’s plan that has received the consolidated approval of the U.N. Security Council and the international community and begun to be implemented.”
The terrorists operating in Syria “must be repelled decisively as required, inter alia, by the counter-terrorist resolutions of the U.N. Security Council,” the ministry said.
