PRETORIA, April 28 (Itar-Tass) —— The military junta in Guinea-Bissau released the country's interim president and ex-premier, local media said on Friday.
Ivorian Minister for African integration Adama Bictogo was quoted as saying interim President Raimundo Pereira and ex-premier and presidential election front-runner Carlos Gomes Junior had left for Abidjan in Ivory Coast.
The two politicians were arrested after the military coup in Guinea-Bissau on April 12 and released a day after West African regional bloc ECOWAS threatened to deploy a force to the country and sanctions against the junta if it resists ECOWAS demand for the return to civilian rule.
