MOSCOW, April 27 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia will continue to assist Syrian efforts to bring peace and stability, Presidential Representative for the Middle East, Deputy Foreign Minister told a delegation of the Syrian Popular Front for Liberation and Change led by Qadri Jamil on Friday.
“The sides had a frank discussion of the search for ways of settling the inter-Syrian crisis,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said. “They agreed to the need for the complete fulfillment of the peace plan of UN/LAS Envoy Kofi Annan, primarily the ceasefire and the prevention of acts of violence.”
“The Syrian delegation called for carrying on socioeconomic reforms in the Syrian Arab Republic with the emphasis on democracy and plurality and achieving accord with all the political forces of the country. They lauded the position of Russia, primarily expressed at the UN Security Council, which prevented foreign armed interference in Syrian affairs by the ‘Libyan scenario’,” the ministry said.
“Bogdanov confirmed the Russian wish to continue its comprehensive assistance to the Syrian efforts towards peace, stability and security in Syria through a broad national dialog,” the ministry said.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with the Syrian opposition delegation on Thursday.
