MOSCOW, April 27 (Itar-Tass) — The opposition has decided against staging a rally in Moscow on May 1 to “concentrate efforts” on May 6, said an internet statement posted on Thursday.

“With an aim to concentrate our efforts, we give up the earlier announced action on May 1 and urge you to concentrate on preparing protests on the day ahead of (Vladimir Putin’s) inauguration,” said the statement signed by co-chairman of the unregistered People’s Freedom Party (PARNAS) Boris Nemtsov, leader of the Left Front movement Sergei Udaltsov, Garry Kasparov and others.

The rally on May 1 was coordinated with the Moscow authorities, while May 6 has not been coordinated. However, irrespective of their decision “we intend to exercise our constitutional right to peaceful nonviolent protest,” they said. The action is scheduled to begin in central Moscow at 3 pm.
