Former Taganka Chief Yuri Lyubimov signs contract with Bolshoi

MOSCOW, April 25 (Itar-Tass) — Former Chief Artistic Director of Taganka theater Yuri Lyubimov has signed a contract with world famous Bolshoi theater on stage production of Prince Igor opera with first presentation scheduled for December 16, Bolshoi Director General Anatoly Iksanov told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

Preparations for stage production of the opera began last October, and an artistic group which will stage the opera, including the cast, has been determined now, Iksanov said. The author of stage decorations is Zinovy Margolin, Maria Danilova is to design costumes for the cast, Pavel Karmanov is to make music arrangement supervised by composer Vladimir Martynov, Iksanov said.

World famous Bolshoi Chief Orchestra conductor Vassily Sinaisky is to conduct the orchestra. Vassily Sinaiski and Yuri Lyubimov are known to work together for many years; earlier both took part in joint stage projects in the West.

Opera singers given parts in the Prince Igor, who were selected on a competitive basis, include Paata Burchuladze, Vladimir Matorin, Veronika Dzhioyeva, Yelena Zaremba.

Yuri Lyubimov resigned from the post of Taganka chief artistic director last July following a scandal which broke out at the Taganka company while it was on a tour to the Czech Republic. After the 94-year-old Yuri Lybimov had abandoned the Taganka company, which he created almost half a century ago, Lyubimov found another job in his profession to which he dedicated his whole life. He came into the limelight once again after he staged "Besy" (demons) based on a novel by Fyodor Dostoyevsky at the Vakhtangov theater, which was first presented on March 27 - International Day of Theater, and proved a great success. Yuri Lyubimov's next project is "Prince Igor" which first night was scheduled at Bolshoi for December 16. The first presentation of the opera will be held when the patriarch of Russian theater, Yuri Lyubimov, reaches the age of 95.
