Russia sends another humanitarian aid shipment to Serbia

MOSCOW, April 24 (Itar-Tass) —— The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry has sent another humanitarian aid shipment to Serbia.

An Ilyushin Il-76 transport jet took off from the Ramenskoye airfield in the Moscow region at 5:30 p.m. local time for carrying almost 30 tonnes of humanitarian cargo – rescue equipment, power plants, clothes, footwear, medical instruments and drugs – to the Serbian city of Nis.

That was the second humanitarian aid shipment from Russia to Serbia lately. An Emergency Situations Ministry convoy delivered 37.6 tonnes of humanitarian aid – boats, stoves, blankets, motor pumps and water-filled tube dams – to Nis on April 23.

The opening of a Russian-Serbian humanitarian center is due in Nis on April 25, the ministry reported. State Secretary – Deputy Emergency Situations Minister Vladimir Puchkov will attend the opening ceremony and hand over the Russian humanitarian aid to the Serbian side.

The center, which will be the largest in Europe, will have three main focuses, namely humanitarian demining, response to wildfires and other natural calamities and training of personnel.

Russian firefighting aircraft will be stationed in Nis to put out wildfires both in Serbia and in other European countries. Russia invited foreign colleagues to cooperation.

A combined demining team of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry is already operating in Serbia. This year the team has unarmed over 340 explosive devices in the vicinity of Grza, 170 kilometers southeast of Belgrade.
