Medvedev vows to stand firm in war on corruption

“We have declared a war on corruption. We know the enemy, and we shall not retreat,” Medvedev said

MOSCOW, April 24 (Itar-Tass) — Russian President Dmitry Medvedev vows to stand firm in the war on corruption.

“I have been aware all the way that the solution of this large-scale problem will require much time, effort and tremendous willpower. Calls and public relations campaigns will reach nowhere,” he said at a meeting of the State Council on Tuesday.

He remarked that the state was confronted with “well- prepared adversaries.”

“We have declared a war on corruption. We know the enemy, and we shall not retreat,” Medvedev said, adding that in this struggle with systemic corruption “modernization of the economy, openness and responsibility of the authorities will be of great help.”
