UN mission in Syria has already played positive role, Lavrov said

“Regrettably, there is too much speculation in the media, referring to sources that are not always trustworthy”, he noted

DUSHANBE, April 24 (Itar-Tass) — The United Nations mission in Syria has already played a positive role, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday.

“The mission has already played a positive role,” he stressed. “I hope that the number of observers will soon be increased to 300, in line with the United Nations Security Council resolution.”

“The more observers are in the mission, the more objective information we shall have,” he said. “Regrettably, there is too much speculation in the media, referring to sources that are not always trustworthy.”

“That is why the mission’s activity is obviously a positive factor,” the Russian foreign minister noted. “I hope those, who seek to wreck the United Nations mission in Syria, will be stripped of a possibility to realize their plans.”
