Fireworks warehouses explode in Chita

The explosion occurred at Baleislkaya Street on Bolshoi Island on the city's outskirts at 10:55 Moscow time. Nobody was hurt

ULAN-UDE, April 23 (Itar-Tass) — The Russian Emergencies Ministry's Trans-Baikal regional department confirmed the information about an explosion at fireworks warehouses in Chita.

Earlier, witnessed reported about it.

The explosion occurred at Baleislkaya Street on Bolshoi Island on the city's outskirts at 10:55 Moscow time. Nobody was hurt. There is no threat from the fire for residential buildings, an emergency department source said.

Firefighters, police and ambulances went to the site. The area is covered with smoke. It is cordoned off. Residents of neighbouring streets cannot get to their homes.

Police controls the situation. The cordoned area is enlarged, witnesses said.
