BERLIN, April 22 (Itar-Tass) — The aim of the Iranian nuclear programme is to destroy Israel. This opinion was expressed by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in an interview with the German newspaper Bild am Sontag, published on Sunday.
“Small doubt that the Iranian regime sets the aim of destroying us and will take all efforts to achieve this goal,” the Israeli premier emphasized. According to Netanyahu, he “does not see so far signs that Iran examines seriously a chance of halting the development of its nuclear programme”.
At the same time, the premier thanked the German leadership for support in consolidating the defences of the Jewish state and pointed out that it is profitable for Germany to cooperate with Israel in exchanging confidential information and struggle against terrorism.
The two sides agreed in March on deliveries to Israel of a submarine of the Dolphine class. Construction of another two submarines, under construction at the shipyard in Kiel, is nearing completion. They will be handed over to Israel this year.
“Lives of not only our citizens, but also German residents can be saved thanks to this cooperation over the next years,” Netanyahu underlined. He expressed satisfaction with the present state of Israeli-German relations, noting that despite the crimes, committed by Nazis during the Second World War against Jews, Israel and Germany managed to build a bridge between the two nations.
