Amur Region governor, other regional officials receive Tygda residents stricken by fire

Specialists from the regional ministries of finance and social maintenance work with citizens on rendering them financial aid

KHABAROVSK, April 22 (Itar-Tass) — Governor of the Amur Region Oleg Kozhemyako, heads and specialists of regional ministries and departments receive on Sunday residents in the fire-devastated village of Tygda where the flames destroyed 83 dwelling houses and dozens of other buildings.

According to the regional head, “the top priority task now is to carry out restoration work and to overcome aftermaths of the fire”. A group on restoring documents of Tygda residents works now at the crisis centre to issue villagers temporary ID certificates.

Specialists from the regional ministries of finance and social maintenance work with citizens on rendering them financial aid. They specify lists of people of burnt-down houses, their family members and property destroyed by fire. Lawyers give consultations to residents on all appropriate questions.

The crisis centre, guided by the governor, has groups on organizing rescue work, providing fire victims with humanitarian aid and planning construction work. The centre issues prime necessities: clothing, footwear, kitchenware and linens. Payments of material aid will start on Monday.

According to the latest information, 346 people or 125 families, including 59 children, are now homeless as a result of the fire. Fire victims live with their relatives and acquaintances as well as at temporary accommodation centres, including five railway sleepers, sent to Tygda by the management of the Trans-Baikal Railway at the request of the Amur Region authorities.

Fire victims receive hot meals free three times a day.

Not a single person was left without assistance of medics and psychologists. The village administration reported that “a ban was clamped down on sales of strong beverages in Tygda as well as neighbouring rail stations of Magdagachi and Chalgany at the recommendation of psychologists so as not to aggravate the precarious situation”.

A commission of the Amur Region government calculated the damage, inflicted by the fire.

A criminal case was instituted in connection with the fire under Article 219 of the Russian Criminal Code – “violation of fire safety requirements”.
