MOSCOW, April 21 (Itar-Tass) —— Train traffic through the station of Tygda in the Amur Region was not halted when the fire raged in the village.
A container ground at the station caught fire, but it was promptly extinguished, a Russian Railways company source told Itar-Tass on Saturday.
Thanks to the coordinated and decisive actions of workers of the railway fire service and other services of the Trans-Baikal Railway, the threat was averted, and the train traffic was not halted, the source said.
The source noted that particularly selfless in the work was the station's head Svetlana Goryayeva, who controlled the traffic while her house was burning.
The fire in the village destroyed a cafe, a store and a bakery. Houses of railway station workers were also hit. According to the preliminary information, about 13 people are left without homes, the source said.
Earlier, company sources said that five carriages were sent to Tygda for the people who lost their homes and a restaurant car to provide meals for them.
The local station is prepared to accommodate ten people, 47 people can be accommodated in the locomotive crews' holiday hotel at the neighbouring station of Magdagachi, and 200 people can lodge in the House of Culture of railway workers at the same station.
Headquarters are set up in the Trans-Baikal Railway administration, and another is working directly at the station of Tygda.
According to the updated information, the fire in the village destroyed 83 houses of 346 people and 40 non-residential buildings.
On Friday, the fire that broke out at the sawing works was spread by a strong wind to houses and other buildings in Tygda, the Magdagachi district in the Amur Region.
One died in the fire. A woman with severe burns is in an intensive care ward, the Interior Ministry's regional department said. Some people suffering heart attacks needed medical aid. Ambulances from Magdagachi and other nearby residential sites work in the village. More than 180 people are evacuated from the zone. They are at temporary accommodation stations or in homes of relatives.
The police department did not confirm the information that two people died in the fire. The woman with severe burns taken to hospital is in an intensive care ward now, and doctors continue fighting for her life, police department spokeswoman Elina Yakubova told Itar-Tass.
An old woman died in the fire. Her body was found under the debris of a burned house.
A train of five compartment carriages and a restaurant car arrived in Tydga on Saturday for people left by the fire without homes. Stations for 320 evacuated people are prepared in the neighbouring village of Magdagachi.
One hundred and one units of machines work at the site, including three fire trains, a repair train and seven aircraft, and there are 417 firefighters, the Emergencies Ministry's Far Eastern regional centre reported.
Stations to provide psychological aid have opened in the club, the railway station and the operational headquarters in Tygda. Such stations will also open at the facilities for evacuated residents. Food is also provided for the affected people.
The blaze was completely extinguished by 09:00 Moscow time. Water is poured onto the constructions. There is not threat of new fire outbreaks.
