MOSCOW, April 20 (Itar-Tass) — The Just Russia party on Thursday urged Oleg Shein, the ex-candidate to the post of Astrakhan’s mayor, to go off hunger strike and wait for a court decision.

The bureau of the presidium of the Central Council of the Just Russia political party has adopted an appeal to Oleg Shein, asking him to suspend his hunger strike until a court decision is made, a document posted on the party’s website says.

A working group consisting of members of the presidium and the party’s central council has been set up to study the situation on the spot and coordinate protest actions in support of the hunger strikers’ demands. It was decided to send recommendations to the regional branches of the Just Russia party.

Oleg Shein went on hunger strike to contest the results of mayoral elections held in Astrakhan on March 4. Mikhail Stolyarov, a candidate of the United Russia party, was announced the official winner. Stolyarov gained about 60% of the vote compared to Shein’s 30%.

Shein has filed a lawsuit to the Kirov district court in Astrakhan on April 16.

Sergei Mironov, the leader of the Just Russia party, has already asked Shein to end the hunger strike to preserve strength for the court.
