MOSCOW, April 20 (Itar-Tass) — Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said in a telephone conversation with South Ossetian President Leonid Tibilov on Thursday that Russia would continue helping the republic to build its statehood, the Kremlin press service reports.
Dmitry Medvedev extended his cordial greetings to Leonid Tibilov on the occasion of his inauguration as president of South Ossetia and wished him success in his new work for the benefit of the South Ossetian people.
“The president confirmed Russia’s readiness to continue to support South Ossetia and give it all-round assistance in building its statehood, developing its socio-economic sphere and strengthening inter-state relations between our countries based on strong traditions of friendship,” the Kremlin press service went on to say.
Medvedev invited Tibilov to pay a visit to Russia. A concrete date will be set later through diplomatic channels.
On Thursday, Tibilov also met Russian State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin in Tskhinval to discuss how to use the funds allocated by Russia more effectively.
“Today, we spoke about plans of future cooperation, especially those that concern the republic’s socio-economic development,” Naryshkin told journalists.
“Huge resources have been reserved for the construction of facilities included in our joint plan. Naturally, we want resources allocated by Russia to be used effectively,” Naryshkin went on to say.
The State Duma speaker said that Russia was rendering assistance to South Ossetia in the restoration and development of its economy.
“We have huge plans and we will work together effectively,” Naryshkin went on to say.
“Our common task is to see that the huge resources allocated for the republic’s restoration are used effectively without any violations. We know that you are a responsible leader and a man of principle who knows how to assign tasks to your subordinates and ensure that they are fulfilled,” Naryshkin told Tibilov.
