MOSCOW, April 18 (Itar-Tass) —— The Moscow City Court began a trial over the criminal case versus Chinese citizen Sun Wei, who is accused of hostage taking, banditry and extortion, on Wednesday.

The detectives found that on April 11, 2011 Sun Wei broke in the flat, where wealthy Chinese citizens lived, according to him. He was keeping three tenants of the flat for several hours. The hostages were tied up all this period of time. The defendant extorted 3.5 million Chinese Yuan (more than 15,058,000 roubles) from them.

However, thanks to the special operation the man was detained by the law enforcers.

During the trial, the defendant said through the interpreter that he does not plead guilty. His lawyer noted that the actions of his client “are not a crime, but a business conflict.”

The policemen were interrogated in the court on Wednesday. They testified that in the detention a pistol TT, which turned out to be broken, a kitchen knife and a mask were confiscated from Wei.

The trial is being held without injured parties, which went to China and asked to try the criminal case without them.

Sun Wei is accused under Article 206 Part 2 of the Criminal Code for the capture and keeping of two or more people as hostages, with the use of weapons or objects, which are used as weapons with evil intentions.
