KRASNOYARSK, April 15 (Itar-Tass) —— Thirteen wildfires were raging in an area of 162.5 hectares in six districts of the Novosibirsk region at 01.00 p.m. local time (10.00 a.m. Moscow time), the press service of the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s Regional Department told Itar-Tass on Sunday.
Under the report, all the above-mentioned fire outbreaks appeared less than 24 hours ago. Rescuers and fire-fighters hope to extinguish them later in the day. Up to the moment, seven fires in an area of 97.5 hectares have already been put out, the press service said.
According to the Regional Emergencies Ministry, 40 percent of the fire outbreaks are triggered due to negligence of the local population. The cause of 60 percent of fires is expected to be uncovered by investigators in the near future.
“There were no information on wildfires in the territories of special protection and in the lands belonging to the Defence Ministry,” the press service said.
All in all, 70 wildfires were raging in an area of 18,687.3 hectares in Siberia on Sunday. The biggest part of them is near the Lake of Baikal.
