MOSCOW, April 13 (Itar-Tass) —— The General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) will continue its work in the Russian capital. The assembly is being held at the Moscow Foreign Trade Centre.
The event of such a scale is being held in Russia for the first time. Representatives of 203 recognized National Olympic Committees (NOC) arrived in the Russian capital. Apart from NOC presidents, ministers of sports of many states will take part in the assembly. The presentation of applications of the cities-candidates for the holding of the Olympic Games in 2020 will be the main event of the forum. Five cities: Baku (Azerbaijan), Doha (Qatar), Madrid (Spain), Istanbul (Turkey) and Tokyo (Japan) pretend to the Olympic Games-2020.
The first presentation will be held on Saturday – April 14. Ten-minute video films of the cities will be demonstrated to the ANOC participants. Although the Association doesn’t have a direct vote while choosing cities, National Olympic Committees’ opinion is seriously taken into account by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) while forming the final list of cities-candidates.
President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko will make a report on the status of preparations for the Games in Sochi on April 15. On April 16, a joint briefing of leaders of the Sochi 2014 and London 2012 Organizing Committees Chernyshenko and Sebastian Coe will be held before the beginning of the NOCA General Assembly to discuss prospects for the development of the Olympic movement and processes of preparations for the Games in Russia and Great Britain.
Besides, on April 16 and 17, the 2nd World Olympic Sport Forum will be held within the framework of the assembly. Ministers of sports of all the countries-participants are invited to attend it. A meeting of the ANOC Executive Committee, as well as joint meetings of the IOC Executive Committee and participants in the ANOC General Assembly will also be held within the framework of the assembly.
