MURMANSK, April 13 (Itar-Tass) — The Murmansk Regional Duma has approved the appointment of Marina Kovtun nominated by President Dmitry Medvedev as the Murmansk Governor with 30 votes to three.
The president nominated Kovtun for governor on April 12. He signed an ordinance on April 4 to accept the resignation tendered by Murmansk Governor Dmitry Dmitriyenko and to appoint Kovtun as the Acting Governor.
Kovtun is a native of the Murmansk region, who has worked for the regional executive authorities for a long time and managed a large industrial enterprise. She was elected a deputy of the Fifth Murmansk Regional Duma in December 2011 and became a Murmansk Regional State First Vice-Speaker and the head of the United Russia faction.
