North Korea rocket fails - Japan

North Korea launched its Unha-3 rocket at 07:35 hours local time on Friday

SEOUL, April 13 (Itar-Tass) —— North Korea launched its Unha-3 rocket at 07:35 hours local time on Friday, South Korean Yonhap news agency reported quoting defense ministry official.

In Tokyo Defense Minister Naoki Tanaka confirmed the launch but said it failed as the rocket flew only more than one minute and splashed into the sea without causing any damage.

On Thursday the Group of Eight foreign ministers demanded North Korea to drop plans for a rocket launch.

In a statement the ministers said they "demand that the DPRK not conduct the launch" as it will be a violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

North Korea said it will launch the Unha-3 (Galaxy-3) rocket by Monday to put a satellite into orbit to celebrate the birth centennial of its founder Kim Il-Sung.

However Washington and North Korean neighbors fear it will be a missile launch.
