Fire liquidated at Volgograd metallurgical plant

A fire that erupted at an iron and steel plant in Volgograd at around 18:30 Moscow time on Thursday has been liquidated

VOLGOGRAD, April 12 (Itar-Tass) — A fire that erupted at an iron and steel plant in Volgograd at around 18:30 Moscow time on Thursday has been liquidated. No casualties have been reported.

“The fire crews are watering the premises of the transforming station at the Krasnyi Oktyabr (Red October) plant,” Dmitry Ulanov, a representative of the regional department of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations, reported from the fire scene.

“A fire alarm signal was received at 18:31 Moscow time. Lubricating oil had reportedly ignited at the plant’s electric substation. The flames spread to an area of 225 square meters. Twelve fire crews with a total strength of 60 people were called in to suppress the fire. The fire was localized at 20:38 Moscow time,” Ulanov went on to say.

A joint panel of representatives of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Interior Ministry, the Prosecutor’s Office and investigative bodies are trying to establish the fire’s cause.
