Ukrainian premier urges Timoshenko to admit her guilt

Admission of guilt before the Ukrainian people by this country’s former Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko

KIEV, April 12 (Itar-Tass) — Admission of guilt before the Ukrainian people by this country’s former Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko, who is currently serving a seven-year jail term for an abuse of occupation powers “might open up the way to a legal resolution of her case,” incumbent Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov said Thursday during a visit to Lithuania.

The clue to the solution of this problem is to be found exclusively in the field of law, he said.

“Neither President nor government have the powers to pass whatever decisions on the case and any solutions may be found only in the courtroom,” Azarov said.

He pointed out the importance of Timoshenko’s recognition of her wrongdoings in the face of the Ukrainian people that has bumped into huge economic problems because of her unlawful actions.

“Recognition of guilt /on her part/ would open up the pathway to a legal solution of the problem,” Azarov said adding that Timoshenko’s political proponents are seeking a solution that lies outside the system of legality.
