German doctors to examine Timoshenko’s treatment conditions

German doctors will arrive in Ukraine on April 13 to examine the conditions at the central clinical hospital Ukrzaliznytsi in Kharkov

KIEV, April 11 (Itar-Tass) —— German doctors will arrive in Ukraine on April 13 to examine the conditions at the central clinical hospital Ukrzaliznytsi (Ukrainian Railways) in Kharkov, where the former prime minister Yulia Timoshenko will be cured, director of the information policy department of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Oleg Voloshin told reporters on Wednesday.

“German doctors informed orally the Foreign Ministry that they are ready to arrive in Ukraine on April 13 and examine the clinic, where Timoshenko is expected to be cured,” Voloshin said. The foreign medics did not produce the written confirmation of their visit, but Ukraine is waiting for them and is ready to give maximum possible assistance, he said.

On April 4, Timoshenko’s lawyer and a deputy of the Ukrainian parliament Sergei Vlasenko stated that the Health Ministry offers to treat Timoshenko at the Kharkov hospital Ukrzaliznytsi, which is not specialized in spinal diseases. “Neither she (the former prime minister) nor her lawyers are specialists in medicine. Therefore, we turned to German doctors so that they will arrive and find whether this clinic can guarantee the treatment, which was prescribed to her. So, if it is found that this clinic will guarantee the treatment course, Yulia Vladimirovna will be immediately ready to begin treatment. But she insists on independent doctors to do it,” Vlasenko said.

The press service of the Health Ministry reported earlier that Timoshenko’s treatment course will envisage the cure of a spinal pathology and the peripheral nervous system at the central clinical hospital Ukrzaliznytsi, “the material and technical base of which meets fully all requirements of specialists from Germany that are also coordinated by all specialists from a medical committee of the Health Ministry.”

But already on April 6 Timoshenko’s daughter Yevgeniya Timoshenko stated that her mother, who is being kept at the Kachanovo penitentiary, refuses from treatment in this clinic. “When millions of people are suffering, having no money for necessary medicines and the treatment of themselves and their children, you stage a show of luxury at the hospitals and prisons for the PR campaign,” Timoshenko’s daughter read out her mother’s statement to reporters. Timoshenko addressed her statement to Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich.

She also confirmed that the former prime minister is waiting for the arrival of German doctors from the Charite clinic. “My mother is still suffering from strong pains,” Yevgeniya said.

Acting head of the State Penitentiary Service department in the Kharkov Region Yevgeny Barash said earlier that three rooms on the ninth floor were provided for Timoshenko at the hospital.
