SOCHI, April 11 (Itar-Tass) — Three hundred passengers have been stranded at Sochi airport because of a heavy fog. The Basel Aero company which supervises airports in the south of Russia told Itar-Tass that seven flights scheduled to land by noon Moscow time Wednesday were delayed.
Several airline companies have cancelled flights to Sochi, including a flight from Istanbul, because of a poor visibility at Sochi airport, A flight from Dushanbe which was to have landed in Sochi has landed at a reserve airport in Rostov-on- Don; another flight from Moscow has landed in Krasnodar.
A FIFA commission expected to arrive on a flight from Krasnodar to inspect several sports and cultural facilities failed to arrive in Sochi yet. The organizers of the FIFA delegation’s visit said the program of the visit might be changed.
Weathermen said that a poor visibility range in the area of Sochi airport might continue for several more hours.
