Opposition leader Udaltsov detained in central Moscow

MOSCOW, April 11 (Itar-Tass) — One of the leaders of the Russian opposition movement Sergei Udaltsov has been arrested in the centre of Moscow near the Teatralnaya metro station on Wednesday.

Udaltsov gave an interview to reporters who gathered at the metro station’s exit about the events in Astrakhan. He also said that he intended with his colleagues to go to the State Duma building, organising, according to him, a peaceful rally called “a white Duma.” After that Udaltsov was detained by police.

Approaches to the State Duma building are cordoned off by police officers, buses with additional police squads are placed in the adjacent side streets. The situation is generally calm, reinforced patrols are on duty at the Okhotny Ryad and Teatralnaya metro stations.
